Parental Alienation
Awareness Organization Points to the Behaviors of Alec Baldwin and Kim
Basinger to Highlight Why It Is Crucial to Learn About Parental Alienation
MIAMI,
May 14, 2007 -- Mr. Baldwin has claimed his
behavior was in reaction to Parental Alienation and the
stress it puts on a parent. Being continuously belittled and
undermined by the other parent can and does put great
strains on a parent. This can result in the type of
knee-jerk reaction Mr. Baldwin displayed toward his
daughter. Consequently, the alienation often perpetuates,
and the relationship between the child and a previously
loving parent can be ruptured permanently.
It has been reported that Kim Basinger has also done much
"button pushing" in this highly publicized, high-conflict
custody battle, with her own mother criticizing her attempts
to interfere in the relationship between Mr. Baldwin and his
daughter.
"While there is absolutely no excuse for Mr. Baldwin's
behavior toward his daughter, both parents share
responsibility in putting their own agendas of anger and
revenge before the needs of the child," states Sarvy Emo,
Parental Alienation Awareness Organization (PAAO)
co-founder.
"Children who have been exposed to alienating behaviors by
one parent toward the other often show a lack of regard or
empathy, unjustified fear or anger, and refusal of contact
or communication with that parent," adds Robin Denison, PAAO
co-founder.
As one adult survivor of these behaviors has stated, "I
still can hardly believe that I can have access to my father
without the extreme emotional extortion I suffered as a
child of divorce."
PAAO urges everyone to learn more about Parental Alienation
and Hostile Aggressive Parenting, and how these behaviors
can scar a child for life.
April 25th is the second annual Parental Alienation
Awareness Day, put forth for exactly the above reasons. Last
year, many groups and individuals mobilized on that day to
educate parents, teachers, social service personnel, judges,
legal and mental health professionals, and others involved
with children.
With awareness comes education, understanding and the power
to stop the abuse of innocent children caught in the
crossfire of people they love.
