Howard
Dean Starts Democracy for America
June
20, 2004
Inspired
by the presidential campaign of Howard Dean, Democracy for America
(DFA) is a political action committee dedicated to supporting fiscally
conservative, socially progressive candidates at all levels of government
-- from school board to the presidency. DFA fights against the influence
of the far right-wing and their radical, divisive policies and the selfish
special interests that for too long have dominated our politics.
By recruiting and encouraging progressive candidates to run for office
at every level, DFA will help take this country back one political race
at a time. We assist candidates in finding the resources to run a successful
campaign by providing funds and training volunteers and staff for these
races. By partnering with like-minded organizations, harnessing the power
of the Internet, Democrats throughout the country will get elected not
only this November, but for years to come.
Every two weeks, Gov. Dean and DFA will endorse twelve candidates that
are working hard to take our country back -- The Dean Dozen. On behalf
of the candidates, DFA reaches out to our supporters to inform them about
these individuals. Many of our enthusiastic supporters have already expressed
interest in financially supporting and volunteering for candidates Dean
endorses. DFA will also financially support these candidates too. These
will be tough races and not everyone on the Dean Dozen may win. However,
they will all spread the message that in order to change America, progressives
must compete.
DFA has a long-term goal that looks past November 2004. This organization
will rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up -- it will take time,
but we must start building a base now for the future, just like the Republicans
did 40 years ago.
